Chicago house legend Lil Louis (given name: Louis Sims) suffered a serious inner ear injury–possibly jeopardizing his career as a DJ and producer–this past weekend at Manchester’s Sankeys nightclub. All because a club manager wanted to “show off a new toy,” an airhorn, about a foot from the DJ’s ear.
Simms was scheduled to headline that night’s party, but instead spent his evening/early morning at a hospital medicated and diagnosed with permanent “sound induced hearing loss.” He took to his Facebook page yesterday to express his justifiable outrage:
I am fucking upset, because this idiot, (a manager no less) should have known better. And not only did he prevent me from playing for you, he may have ended my career as a DJ and Artist. I’m not looking for sympathy, but to prevent any new rumors from milling, instead of handling it privately as usual, this time I’m sharing the details.
Not to be confused with Little Louie Vega (and of course you, our discerning readers, would never make such a mistake), Lil Louis is often credited as one of the founding fathers of house, with three of his tracks hitting #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart in the 1980s and 90s.
