April is finally here and TheHundred is ready to spring into action on Saturday, April 27 with another amazing party. We always strive to look for fresh talent – artists that have been on our radar, but who’s notoriety is still on the rise. This month will be another one of firsts, as this month’s guest, the solid production/DJ duo Walker & Royce, will be making their Denver debut.
About a decade ago, long before Walker & Royce became a “thing”, Sam Walker and Gavin Royce met at an underground house music party in Brooklyn and soon became friends, but they didn’t head into the studio straight away. The pair threw parties together over the subsequent years, while independently Sam honed his skills in the studio and Gavin sharpened his DJ skills in the New York house scene. But it wasn’t until two years ago, when the two found themselves working together at Nervous Records, that they decided to unite their skill sets.
They started humbly, putting together a few remixes at first that were immediately well received. From there, things took off for them. They were sought out for more remixing duties and their originals were gaining more and more notice as well. Now the pair have releases over a multitude of record labels, including current heavy hitters like Crosstown Rebels, OFF Records, Moda Black, and many more. Their charismatic dynamic and dedication to the underground house sound, both throwback and modern, is what makes this duo so enticing.
If you’ve been hungry for proper house music, April 27th is a date you do not want to miss. We got a sneak peek of what Walker & Royce is all about at SXSW this year, and what we saw is still happily lodged in our memories! We’ve also got the venerable option4, Beatport’s own Matt Ferry, and the local power duo Need & Necessity to kick things into high gear early. This 21+ show starts at 9PM at Beauty Bar and only costs $8. See the event page for more details and to RSVP!
